ORH exhibiting at Ambition 2014

ORH’s Dynamic Cover Tool to be used to optimise Fast Response Unit deployment in the LAS

ORH has been commissioned to implement its Dynamic Cover Tool – the DCT – into the London Ambulance Service’s Emergency Operations Centre in Waterloo.  The DCT will be used specifically to support Control Officers in ensuring that available Fast Response Units are optimally positioned 24/7 in order to ensure equitable response cover to Red incidents across the area.

Co-Responding Review for CLG

At the recent LGA Fire Conference 2014 in Cardiff, the topics of greater collaboration with the ambulance service and the potential for co-responding were frequently discussed.  In 2008, ORH was commissioned by Communities and Local Government (CLG) to undertake a study into Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) co-responding.  The final report was published by CLG in January 2009 and is available to download here.

The report provides a snapshot of key co-responding statistics and other relevant information for England up to December 2007; prospects for FRS co-responding were also considered.  Although the data contained within the report is a few years old, the key themes are relevant to current discussions.  ORH has extensive experience of working alongside both ambulance and fire services, and can use modelling techniques to examine the attendance and workload impacts associated with co-responding.

ORH secures PTS Modelling Review for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust

ORH completed a Patient Transport Service (PTS) modelling review for the Trust covering West Yorkshire in early March 2014 and has now been commissioned to extend the work to the whole of Yorkshire.  The overall aim is to identify the PTS vehicle and staff deployments required to meet contracted standards of service given the current demand profile and future year demand projections.  The outcomes of ORH’s recent emergency service modelling study that identified an appropriate ‘Hub and Spoke’ system for A&E resources are to be taken into account in determining optimum PTS resource deployment locations.

Shrove Tuesday Charity Race

This year, ORH entered a team into the annual Reading Charity Pancake Race to help raise money for homeless charity Launchpad.  The relay race of tossing pancakes took place in Reading town centre with 30 teams from local businesses taking part in fancy dress.  The ORH team were egged-on by their colleagues and had a flipping good time, but unfortunately they were battered by the competition. A fantastic total of £1,169 was raised for Launchpad.

ORH to exhibit at the LGA Fire Conference

We are pleased to announce that ORH will be exhibiting at the annual LGA Fire Conference which is being held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th March.
The event provides an important national forum for the sector, and broader public services, to debate and discuss the key issues from Sir Ken Knight’s review and to enable FRSs to consider their own future direction.  In a year which has seen FBU strike action over Government pension scheme reform presenting challenges for authorities, the conference will also be an opportunity to reflect on local experiences and consider some of the wider employee relations challenges of the future.

DCT proves its worth for Fire & Rescue New South Wales

Earlier this year, ORH implemented the Dynamic Cover Tool for Fire & Rescue New South Wales which has aided control room staff with operational decisions. Assistant Commissioner Mark Brown said, “Fire & Rescue NSW now has a reliable tool to assist us to monitor and maintain our level of service delivery to the community. Because it is based on our own risk profile, ORH’s Dynamic Cover Tool provides a high level of confidence around operational decisions within our two Communication Centres and has proved its worth during major events, such as the Blue Mountains bushfires in October 2013.”

Clinical Capacity Review completed for East of England Ambulance Service

ORH has recently completed a Clinical Capacity review which identified gaps in cover and, through consultation and modelling, assessed options for the East of England Ambulance Service to improve performance through more efficient working and taking system-wide measures that mitigate the risks associated with gaps in cover.
