‘OGRE’ – Optimising by Genetic Resource Evolution - is a unique program that uses a genetic algorithm to identify optimum resource deployments and optimum station configurations given a set of optimising criteria. It has been developed by ORH specifically for emergency service and health service application.
It requires as input a ‘noded framework’ of the area with inter-node travel times, and a geographical distribution of demand – for example, incidents by ‘type’ or population. Optimising criteria are then set depending on the problem to be solved.
In broad terms there are four processing modes, as shown in the figure, giving the flexibility to appraise the relationship between location strategy and resource levels. |
