ORH has been supporting planning in the public sector for over 30 years. Our origins, however, go back to the 1970s and the OR research groups set up by the government to apply modelling techniques within the NHS. We have helped over 150 organisations since the company was founded – here are a few of our milestones:
ORH was established by Mike Vicary and Bob Raitt. They set up our first office in Reading, and we are still based in the town today.
ORH becomes a private limited company – all shareholders to date are either current or former employees.
We complete our first international project for the ambulance service in Hong Kong.
We acquire in-house GIS software for the first time to enhance our analysis with improved mapping and to present the outcomes from our new optimisation model.
Our first work in Australia involves a review of operations and control for New South Wales Ambulance, one of many long-standing clients of ORH.
We complete our first two projects for fire clients in the UK, helping services set new response standards following the introduction of the Fire and Rescue Services Act.
Our first involvement in a national fire conference includes a workshop session on measuring risk and supporting the IRMP process. We carry out our first study for an ambulance service in New Zealand.
The first iteration of what would later become the DCT is trialled live in London Fire Brigade, allowing staff in control to understand risk and coverage on a live basis.
We celebrate our silver anniversary with staff and associates from ORH’s first 25 years. Our first project for an EMS provider in Canada begins at the end of the year.
ORH secures a contract with Sport England and sportscotland, operating their Facility Planning Model (FPM) to evaluate public access to local sports facilities.
ORH begins working with the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, analysing emergency and non-emergency patient journeys and modelling service provision across the territories.
In a busy year for the company, Chris Polden becomes managing director at ORH, we are awarded our first project in the US, and we re-design our company logo and branding.
ORH moves into its current offices at 3 Queens Road, Reading. We present our findings from the first modelling review of a Swedish emergency service at a national government conference.
Based on our unparalleled experience in the UK ambulance and fire sectors, we host workshops at the major conferences for both services, looking at the importance of response times.
